Our story

Tweak's flagship magazine, The Developer was the brainchild of Christine Murray, the award-winning former Editor-in-Chief of the Architects’ Journal and The Architectural Review, honed in partnership with former colleague James MacLeod, now Director. It was launched in November 2018 with Ocean Media Group, publishers of Inside Housing and Social Housing under former COO, Tim Willoughby. Murray and MacLeod launched the Festival of Place and The Pineapples awards for place alongside the magazine, podcast and content series to bring the community together in-person and online. Tweak Ltd was formed when Murray and MacLeod completed a management buyout in March 2020 and became an independent media company. The name refers to our committed to doing things differently not through disruption or by reinventing the wheel, but through a series of careful edits and micro-improvements. Tweak's brands have become known as quirky, fun, informative, essential, brave, diverse, gender inclusive and uncommonly interesting. We bring a unique subset of the property industry together to debate the future of UK cities featuring insightful content from global academics and researchers. We invite arts-led and community-led groups and charities to participate for free. Our community learns and connects through us, forging relationships and partnerships with likeminded purpose-driven organisations from across the charitable, private and public sector. It takes many hands to make a great place, and the challenges of social deprivation and climate change can feel insurmountable. We believe collaboration, a unifying narrative and good data are mission critical.
